JOB SUMMARY 3D Systems, a leading global provider of 3D printing solutions, is currently accepting candidates for an Electrical Design Engineer to work on systems using embedded electronics for the processing of data and the control of electromechanical systems. This position will participate in multi-discipline teams supporting 3D printing development programs through the application of electrical engineering tools in the design, development, and production phases of a project. We're looking for a motivated hardware engineer to help extend our core hardware capability. Day to day tasks for this role may include the design and implementation of novel hardware to enable 3D Systems business success. PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS In our organization, Electrical Engineering is responsible for all electrical engineering tasks related to the design, analysis, test, and certification of electronic designs that interface to electro-mechanical systems, such as motion control, thermal control, standard IO, analog and digital interfaces. Development tasks may involve component level selection of parts, circuit design including timing analysis, loading, interface, power, thermal, and EMC considerations. We are looking for an individual who is proficient in digital and analog hardware design as well as hands on experience with FPGAs, embedded systems, and microcontrollers. Responsibilities:
Participate as a team member with other Electrical Engineers and work with both internal and external resources to develop robust and reliable electronics of moderate complexity. Design electronic circuits for production intent 3D printers and peripherals meeting ESD, EMI, and regulatory requirements. Define electrical requirements for new designs and develop detailed performance specifications. Perform preliminary design activities-including block diagrams, trade off studies and design reviews. Perform detailed design activities - including schematic capture, design analysis, prototype tests, and design reviews. Perform functional tests and design verification tests. Support electrical qualification tests. Develop equipment to support integration and test. Provide troubleshooting support to New Product Introduction manufacturing. Define production test requirements. Additional growth opportunities:
Be responsible for tasks related to a given development program and will provide engineering support, including schedule tracking and execution, performance against cost and milestones, reporting of status on assigned tasks and interaction with team members from other disciplines. Develop electronic board designs utilizing established engineering principles which may include microprocessor hardware, high-speed memory systems and I/O, or high-speed serial buses. Gain experience with analysis, design, test, integration and troubleshooting of complex electronic hardware systems, beginning with requirements definition through the introduction of the design into manufacturing. Work with partners in Procurement, Manufacturing and Field Service to ensure design meets all New Product Introduction (NPI) requirements. Assist in the development of architecture, implementation strategies, algorithms, and hardware interface programming. Support testing and sustained maintenance of the current and new electrical and firmware systems based on feedback from the field and manufacturing. EDUCATION AND TRAINING BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience in related field. Solid knowledge of electronic engineering principles. EXPERIENCE 5 years' experience developing printed circuit board assemblies using electrical design tools including block diagrams, circuit design, schematic entry, component placement, and test planning. Experience in hardware design validation through empirical analysis, modeling, or experimental test methods Experience in Xilinx and Altera FPGA interface, design, and simulation/verification. (VHDL or Verilog languages) Basic PCB design experience (schematic and layout constraints, layout experience itself is not required) Areas of added interest (desired, but not required):
Electronic circuit design/development for microcontroller-based systems. Embedded controller architecture knowledge that includes real-time systems, sizing for compute tasks, controller selection. Knowledge of high-speed memory design, high-speed buses and associated constraints and debug methods. Experience gathering requirements for embedded computer system designs. Qualifications:
Use of commercial electrical design tools (schematic, circuit development, simulation, etc.) and application packages. Familiarity with Altium tools a plus. Applied design work in the full development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, scheduling, hardware design, test, verification, and documentation to support a manufacturing ready design. Involvement in circuit board qualification:
test development, signal integrity, thermal, power, stress, and regulatory compliance testing. Knowledge of microprocessor architecture, digital design, memory systems, and basic analog design. Knowledge of inter-module communication protocols (I2C, SPI, UART, PCIe, etc.) and familiarity with embedded systems. Hands on use of electronic diagnostic tools (like oscilloscopes, DMM, and data acquisition systems) to troubleshoot hardware and software as well as develop bench tests and verification plans. Knowledge of electronics testing, electronic measurement techniques and equipment, firmware programming, basic design for manufacturability, testability, and cost. Must be a strong self-starter, have good communication, teamwork, and organization skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with cross functional teams. Desire a creative and resourceful individual with strong attention to detail.
Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
Minimum Qualification
